Bastille Day, or la fête nationale or le quatorze juillet, as it's known in France is being celebrated throughout France today. It commemorates the storming of the Bastille in 1789 and the beginning of the French Revolution. Typical activities on this national holiday include parades, firework displays, communal meals, parties and dances. I'm celebrating by having a buffet lunch with French and English friends and trying my hand at a friendly petanque match. Wish me luck!
